COACHING & MENTORING

Work place coaching and mentoring has been shown to be an effective tool to develop and embed motivational interviewing practice.

Support for Social Workers:

Social Work in the context of Child protection is always challenging and there are often competing demands. Coaching or mentoring in the use of Motivational Interviewing can be an effective way for practitioners to feel supported whilst they are developing their skills in practice.

Coaching or mentoring may be useful for you if:

  • Your team are new to motivational interviewing or developing their skills in this area

  • You want to build effective relationships with parents and engage them meaningfully in positive change

  • You want to support children and families to feel invested in plans to support them and reduce the number of children needing the support of Child Protection Plans and Care Orders

Support for Senior Managers and Team Managers:

We have been involved in the development of a range of innovative approaches and training to support the use of Motivational Interviewing in the child protection setting.

The Team Manager role is one of the most difficult roles in Social Work with the associated pressures of supporting a busy staff team and the demands of Senior Managers. We can assist with:

  • Team supervision to support the use of Motivational Interviewing in practice and develop practitioner confidence

  • One to one supervision to support the development of Motivational Interviewing skills in relation to specific situations

Using MI in the child protection setting presents unique challenges. We have frontline understanding of how to tailor the spirit of MI to achieve active engagement of parent’s and promote self driven change.

Coaching sessions can take place in a range of ways to suit you, including: face to face, video calling or telephone.
